Expert Workshop on Cumulative Impact Assessments (CIA)

Lunch to lunch on 1st-3rd July 2026 at The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) Bernhard-Nocht-Straße 78, 20359 Hamburg, Germany. Arranged by The Greater North Sea Basin Initiative WT CIA and the DG Mare NESBproject WP3.

Aim: The workshop aims to strengthen collaboration within the CIA community across the Northern European Sea Basins and to improve strategic alignment on methods, tools, principles, data, etc. The workshop will also offer opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange.

The outputs will feed into the GNSBI WT CIA and NESBp WP3 work products on CIA. 

What: First meeting of the new Community of Practice on CIA for the Northern European Sea Basins. Presentations and discussions on CIA regarding the current state of play, joint ambitions, long-term needs and sea basin strategy, issues concerning the science-policy interface, the options for efficient coordination among countries and institutes, and potentially new collaborations and initiatives.

Who: CIA experts from GNSBI, NSEC, OSPAR, HELCOM, ICES, countries, projects and academia.

The workshop is focused on in-person participation; however, online participation will be provided to the extent feasible. Due to a large social event in Hamburg from July 4-6, we recommend booking a hotel soon.
