First VASAB Directors-General meeting to be Held in Poland

On 27 October 2026 the first-ever VASAB Directors-General meeting will take place in Gdańsk, Poland. Organised under VASAB Polish Chairmanship this high-level event will bring together senior officials responsible for spatial planning and territorial development from all VASAB member countries, and it aims to adopt conclusions for further work of  VASAB cooperation.

The VASAB Polish Chairmanship places a strong focus on spatial and territorial resilience in the Baltic Sea region, building on the work carried out during the previous VASAB Finnish and Estonian Chairmanships. The Polish Chairmanship has identified several priorities, including advancing territorial cohesion across different territorial scales and exploring how territorial resilience can be measured in the Baltic Sea Region through a targeted analysis.

As one of the highlights of the Chairmanship, the VASAB Directors-General meeting will provide an opportunity for senior officials to exchange views on key issues in spatial planning and territorial development across the Baltic Sea Region, discuss ongoing VASAB activities and initiatives, and set directions for further cooperation.

The meeting will also feature:

  • Implementation of the VASAB Vision 2040 and the VASAB Ministerial Tallinn Declaration on Spatial Resilience.
  • New evidence and expected outcome of ESPON Targeted Analysis Baltic ReSeaLand – “Territorial Resilience of Land and Maritime Space in the Baltic Sea Region”.
  • The perspective of the next generation of spatial planners. The winning team of the VASAB Young Planners’ Summer School 2026 “Navigate Planning Through Changes” will present the results of their work, bringing the views and ideas of young professionals into the discussion.
  • Strengthening the spatial planning community. The meeting will consider the outcomes and next steps of the Land-based Planners Forum, which provides a platform for professional exchange, knowledge sharing and cooperation among spatial planning practitioners across the Baltic Sea Region.
  • Statements by delegations of VASAB member countries.
