VASAB session at 3rd EU Macro-Regional Strategies Week 2022
VASAB session at 3rd EU Macro-Regional Strategies Week 2022
About event
VASAB / PA Spatial Planning session “Spatial strategies supporting green and just transition in European macro-regions” during the 3rd EU Macro-Regional Strategies week was held on 8th March at 13:30-15:00 CET / 14:30-16:00 EET where you could find out about the draft VASAB Vision 2040 and envisaged Stakeholder consultations that will take place till July 2022.
VASAB has been given a prominent role to coordinate one of thematic areas – policy area ‘Spatial Planning’ within EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). With its Long-Term Perspective VASAB supports EUSBSR by adding territorial dimension to the efforts achieving coherent and well-integrated macro-region and helps to turn climate and environmental challenges into opportunities.
Territorial and spatial approach in macro-regional strategies can contribute to guiding green, just and digital transition, adapted to the places, diversities and uniqueness of the regions. Also, other macro-regional strategies consider spatial perspectives and territorial scenarios to embed territorial evidence in policymaking and support climate actions.
The session shared experience and spatial perspectives across various macro-regions and discussed among participants how macro-regional cooperation supports green and digital transition and what spatial planning strategies should undertake to address challenges deriving from EU Green Deal and to achieve climate targets. Moreover, with this event the Stakeholder consultations were launched and draft VASAB Vision 2040 was forwarded to wider public for feedback.
