NESB Project Launches Several Surveys

As part of the Northern European Sea Basins project (NESBp), partners have initiated several surveys within Work Package 3: Energy Transition and Biodiversity in Maritime Spatial Planning and Work Package 5: Knowledge Transfer and Sharing. The results of these surveys will help to develop and shape future project deliverables within the Northern European Sea Basins project.

Call for input! Take part in Surveys under Work Package 5: Knowledge Transfer and Sharing

Survey on Navigation Safety in Maritime Spatial Planning in the framework of the Northern European Sea Basins project (NESBp). Link here.

Survey focuses on:

  • integration of navigation safety in MSP plans
  • cooperation practices between MSP and navigation authorities
  • use of data, digital platforms, and geoportals
  • needs for future tools and harmonisation

Expected target groups: This survey is open to maritime spatial planning and navigation safety stakeholders, from among others: MSP planners and authorities, national agencies, maritime and port authorities, coast guards, navigation experts, safety and risk management bodies, researchers and experts involved in MSP and navigation safety

Survey organisers: Shom (French Hydrographic & Oceanographic Service) & GMU (Gdynia Maritime University)

Surveys under the Work Package 3: Energy Transition and Biodiversity in MSP

Survey on Nature Protection and Mitigation Measures in National MSP

Inclusion of nature has been identified as one of the key elements of ecosystem-based approach in MSP (eMSP NSBSR Policy brief). Though the primary goal of the inclusion of nature is management of human activities at sea ensuring healthy functioning of the marine ecosystem, it also involves specific actions aimed at nature conservation and restoration.

The aim of this questionnaire is to collect information on specific nature conservation and restoration actions as well as other measures intended to mitigate potential adverse effects of planned human activities, included in national maritime spatial plans beyond recognition of marine protected areas”.

Target group: representatives of competent authorities coordinating national MSP; experts involved in MSP.

Survey on Cumulative Impact Assessment (CIA) Application

As part of the GNSBI Working Track on Cumulative Impact Assessments (CIA) and the Northern European Sea Basins project (NESBp), the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management of the Netherlands launched a survey on CIA application. The aim is to enhance mutual understanding, enable knowledge sharing across countries and organisations, and create a clearer picture of how CIA is currently approached and used in different contexts. We hope to support a strong community of practice around CIA and identify opportunities for future collaboration.

All MSP contact points in the North Sea and Baltic Sea were requested to take part in the survey.
