The € 3,7 m project BaltSeaPlan (2009-2012) accompanied the EU Maritime Policy by supporting the introduction of Integrated Maritime Spatial Planning and preparation of National Maritime Strategies within Baltic Sea Region. It also contributed to the implementation of the HELCOM recommendation on broad-scale Maritime Spatial Planning and the VASAB Vilnius Declaration.

EU DG MARE Preparatory Action on Maritime Spatial Planning in the Baltic Sea Project's lifetime: December 2010 - June 2012 Budget: € 500 000 The PLAN BOTHNIA project has tested transboundary Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) in the Baltic Sea. The project used the Bothnian Sea area between Sweden and Finland as a case study of Baltic transboundary MSP. The project was a Baltic Sea MSP "preparatory action" funded by EU Commission DG MARE under the EU Integrated Maritime Policy.

Project's lifetime: July 2005 – December 2007 Budget: € 4'300'000 BALANCE (Baltic Sea Management - Nature Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Ecosystem through Spatial Planning) was an INTERREG III B co-funded project aimed towards development of informed marine management tools for the Baltic Sea based on spatial planning and cross-sectoral and transnational co-operation.

Project's lifetime: June 2007 - December 2008 Budget: € 503 104 The main aim of the East West Window project was to accelerate the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) development through better connecting of the existing potentials within the Region.

Project's lifetime: 2002 - 2006 Budget: € 3 000 000 The INTERREG III B BSR BaltCoast (Recommendations on the role of spatial planning in Integrated Coastal Zone Management) project originated from the conclusions of the 5th Conference of Ministers Responsible for Spatial Planning and Development in the Baltic Sea Region (Wismar, 2001) and was a part of the "VASAB 2010 PLUS Spatial Development Action Programme".

Project's lifetime: July 1999 - June 2001 Budget: 394 300 EUR Project MATROS (Maritime Transportation System in the Baltic Sea Region from a Spatial Development Perspective) had 11 partners of 9 countries. The Lead Partner of the project was SIKA – the Swedish Institute for Transport and Communications Analysis. The project developed spatial planning and transport infrastructure planning methods for an integrated maritime transport system in the BSR.
