VASAB Vision 2040 approved

After long and intensive work, VASAB Committee for Spatial Planning and Development of the Baltic Sea Region (VASAB CSPD/BSR) in its 88th meeting on 13 December 2022 approved the VASAB Vision for the Territorial Development of the Baltic Sea Region in 2040. This document sets long-term territorial perspective for the Baltic Sea Region, observes land and sea as well as land-sea interactions, addresses emerging trends and challenges. Furthermore, the VASAB Vision 2040 proposes potential future actions that could be implemented jointly with stakeholders. VASAB Vision 2040 is expected to be endorsed by VASAB Ministerial Conference that will be organized on 1-2 June 2023. In addition, VASAB, being also the lead coordinator for Policy area ‘Spatial Planning’, will communicate the Vision 2040 with other Policy areas and stakeholders within the network of EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and beyond. Few steps closer to VASAB Vision 204022 September 2022 VASAB Committee on Spatial Planning and Development of the Baltic Sea Region (CSPD/BSR) is continuing to update its Long-Term Perspective for the Territorial Development of the Baltic Sea Region and has prepared draft VASAB Vision 2040. The visioning has been a co-creative process, during which the key elements of the vision have been developed in close cooperation with the VASAB CSPD/BSR and also communicated to other relevant stakeholders through different workshops and other activities. This interactive process has been a characteristic of the process and has been used to continuously adjust and improve the document.
The update of the VASAB Long-Term Perspective – first draft given to public hearing8 March 2022 After updating VASAB Long Term Perspective and elaborating first draft of the VASAB Vision 2040, VASAB launches the Stakeholder consultations that will take place till 15 July 2022. The update of VASAB Long-Term Perspective aims at achieving territorial cohesion in 2040 and seek answers on how a desired Baltic Sea Region would look like by 2040 and how its maritime and spatial planning will be evolved by then.
Bridging the old with the new: co-creation process for the update of the VASAB Long-Term Perspective14 December 2021 How would a desired Baltic Sea Region look like by 2040? How do we envision its urban networks and settlement structure, its physical and digital connectivity, the management of its ‘commons’ that ensure a good quality of life, and how do we envision its maritime and spatial planning by 2040? What do we wish to look different from today? These are questions that seek answers within the update of VASAB Long-Term Perspective for the Territorial Development of the Baltic Sea Region in 2040. This is a strategic spatial planning document that aims at achieving territorial cohesion in 2040.
Call for your input: share your views in survey and co-creation workshops on the future for the Baltic Sea Region in 2040!12 October 2021 Following the internal preparatory work, the series of stakeholder co-creation activities within the update of the VASAB Long-Term Perspective for the Territorial Development of the Baltic Sea Region have been launched this autumn.
On the way towards updating the VASAB Long-Term Perspective30 July 2021 So far year 2021 has been very active despite the lockdowns and restrictions due to the pandemic. After adoption of the Methodology, VASAB launched the update of its Long-Term Perspective for the Territorial Development of the Baltic Sea Region (LTP) – strategic spatial planning document targeted towards territorial coherence in 2040. The update of the Long-Term Perspective will take place by the end of 2022 and is carried out together with support of commissioned experts from Spatial Foresight and Nordregio.
Methodology for the update of VASAB Long-Term Perspective approved27 April 2021 On 22 April 2021 the VASAB Committee on Spatial Planning and Development for the Baltic Sea Region agreed on the Methodology for the update of VASAB Long-Term Perspective for the Territorial Development of the Baltic Sea Region, elaborated by experts from Spatial Foresight GmbH and Nordregio. The Methodology describes intended update process, overall approach and tasks, stakeholder involvement and communication.
